Book Review: The Adventures of Diggitty the Dog

on July 31, 2013

Book Blurb:

Diggitty the Dog is an endearing and mischievous new friend who will soon be a favorite in your house. Diggitty lives on a farm with her owner. In her first adventure, she teaches how apples are grown in an orchard. The book is filled with fun facts and appropriate for ages 3-9.

About the Author:

Susan Keene grew up in Illinois and spent the first 20 years of her career in the medical profession. Later she went into sales and sales training before going to live on a farm in SW Missouri.
Susan has been writing since she was big enough to hold a pencil. She is a Fellow in the American Society of Poets and has been published dozens of times.
This is her first children’s book.
The Adventures of Diggitty the dog is meant to help children learn in a fun environment. The idea was born when she took apples and pears to the local Farmer’s Market and began giving them to the local children, only to find out they didn’t know what real apples and pears looked like.
Susan believes if kids know and understand about food, they will be more likely to make better eating choices. Diggitty is just the mischeivious and happy character to help with the task.
The next books in the series will feature dairy cows, chicken and ducks, vegatable gardens. Who knows what trouble we might get into on the farm?

My Thoughts:

First off, I met the author Susan at my first ever book signing. She is a wonderful person. It was then that I and my unofficial assistant learned about this book. As soon as I saw it was out, I snatched up a copy, curious to read about Diggitty Dog. Susuan did not let me down. Diggitty sounds like a very cute and sweet little dog. I would love to meet him in person. The best part about this book was I actually learned something about apples and orchards. Very cool! Kids will love the story and the illustrations. Can’t wait to read the next one and see what other kinds of mischief Diggitty can get into.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
